ABOUT · ABOUT THE DISEASE

We're fighting leukemia! We are fighting for a chance at life!

Acute B-cell lymphoblastic leukemia, or B-cell ALL, is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. This disease means an uncontrolled multiplication of cancer cells that invade all blood cells: the red ones, leading to anemia, the white ones, leading to decreased immunity and those responsible for clotting, leading to uncontrolled bleeding. As a result, healthy cells in the blood gradually disappear and are replaced by abnormal cells that, when released from the bone marrow, enter the bloodstream and show the first symptoms of leukemia.

If the disease is not kept under control and the complete treatment is not done for 3 years, it can recur at any time, even leading to death. Lara must be constantly monitored, complex medical examinations are constantly required: blood samples, spinal cord samples taken under anesthesia. These show the exact number of cancer cells in the body and show the progress of the cancer. A special chemotherapy catheter was placed in Lara’s chest during surgery, a device that is placed completely under the skin, thus avoiding the frequent and painful punctures of the needle for her. This reduces pain, fear and toxic chemotherapeutic risk. This device can be used for chemotherapy, steroids and other medicines. Lara also receives treatments at home, not only at the hospital, but she is very good, she resists like a heroine to all the procedures and takes all the medicines, even if some make her sick.

Lara is a 5-year-old girl, from Sălaj origins, who was diagnosed with acute B-cell lymphoblastic leukemia (blood and bone marrow cancer) for which she urgently started a chemotherapy treatment, a treatment that must be followed for 3 years. days to heal. Unfortunately, the cost of hospitalizations, tests and hospitalizations is too high to cover.
